Biography

This was taken from Find A Grave:

David Leonard Savage was born to Phoebe Stevens and Roger Savage in Johnston County of Leeds, Upper Canada. David married Theodocia Finch February 1834. Her parents were from Nova Scotia. The only child born to this couple was Polly Amanda in 1836 at Leeds, Canada, his wife, Theodocia died two months later.

When Amanda was five years old her father took her to Walnut Grove, Illinois and stayed with his brother, Jehial Savage, where David heard the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was baptized and met Mary Abigail White and married her on October 14, 1841 at Walnut Grove, Illinois.

In the summer of 1842 they moved to LaHarp, Illinois, 25 miles from Nauvoo, where their first child, John Rodgers, was born on December 3, 1842 and died October 17, 1843. Then father David went on a mission. The prophet Joseph Smith was killed while he was on this mission. When the great western move was started David was called to help one of the leader's families 200 miles on their journey. This journey was one of extreme hardship, the snow being so deep it took six weeks to make the trip. To add to his discouragement one of his horses died and David didn't know how he was going to move his own family from the terrors of the mob but a way was provided.

David knew how to speak the Indian language and often stopped an Indian attack by talking peacefully with the Indians. His daughter Amanda Polly also knew the Ute and Piute languages and when the Indians had trouble communicating would ask for the Savage's Papoose, meaning Amanda, who had no trouble conversing with them.

David also had several other wives: Margaret Jones (Evans), married October 9, 1860 in Salt Lake City, Utah; Susannah Jacaway (Black), married February 9, 1878 in St. George, Washington, Utah; Mary Ward (Heap), married April 2, 1858 in Parowan, Iron, Utah; Maria Cook; and Mary Ellen Cook.

In 1886, David died after an illness of two months of asthma, being nearly 76 years old. He died firm in the faith of the Gospel. He was always kind and liberal. He left 3 wives and was the father of 19 children, seventeen of whom are living and all are married and have families.

Biography

This was taken from Find a Grave:

Daughter of Christian Meyer and Frances Rosina Colby

Married Owen Woodruff Horne, October 27, 1927, Manti, Sanpete, Utah

Children - Richard Meyer Horne, Harold Owen Horne, Kenneth Jay Horne, Thad Horne, David Horne, Carolyn Horne

KAYSVILLE--After 92 years, Mildred Meyer Horne completed her mortal journey, December 19, 1996.

She was born April 3, 1904, in Richfield, UT to Christian and Francis Colby Meyer. On Oct. 27, 1927, she married her neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Owen W. Horne, in the Manti Temple. They enjoyed 60 years together prior to his death in 1987. Seven children joined their family and shared their wonderful love.

A woman of many talents and skills, she excelled at giving. Her hands were always busy quilting, crocheting, sewing or cooking for someone else. She was a friend to all and shared what she had with anyone in need. As a teacher, she was able to touch the lives of many children, in schools, church and in her own family. She loved her family and always looked forward to sharing her joy in their accomplishments, no matter how modest. Her family and the gospel of Jesus Christ were the mainstays in her life. Of her many callings in the LDS Church, she especially enjoyed the time spent as an ordinance worker at the Ogden Temple.

Perhaps her greatest legacy is the love that she communicated to all around her. She was an example of constant love given regardless of actions or choices. Her family love her dearly and will always remember the individual ways that she touched their lives.

Surviving are her children: Thad (Barbara) of Syracuse, Marvin (Jeannine) of Kaysville; David (Claudia) of North Ridge, CA; Carolyn (Rick) Myhre of Roseville, CA; and Kenneth (Charlene) of Kaysville. Richard (Bernice) and Harold (Luana), her two eldest sons, are deceased. She also leaves 37 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Thelma Beutler of Richfield, Utah.

The family would especially like to thank Ken and Charlene, and their family for their loving care of Grandma who always said, "They are so good to me."

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, 1996, at the Kaysville LDS tabernacle, 198 West Center Street. Friends and family may call at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. on Friday at the church prior to services. Interment in the Kaysville City Cemetery.

Patriarch Joseph Smith Home, 94, believed to be the last surviving male pioneer of 1847, and also the last surviving member of the first Sunday school established in the intermountain west, died at his home here Tuesday morning of ailments incident to age.

Arrangements have been made for funeral services to be held at the Sevier stake tabernacle Sunday at 2 p. m. Friends may call at the home Sunday between the hours of 10 a. m. and I p. m. and also on Saturday afternoon.

Patriarch Horne was born at Nauvoo, Ill, May 4, 1842 a son of Joseph and Mary Isabella Hales Horne. He was the fifth child in a family of 15. He lived at Nauvoo where he was acquainted with Joseph Smith, prophet-founder of the L.D.S. church until 1847, when with his father who was captain of a wagon train, he came to Salt Lake valley. In later years he frequently recalled incidents of his acquaintance with the prophet. The religious influence which directed his entire life started then and his faith never wavered. He was a member of the Sunday school established by Richard Ballantyne on December 9, 1849 at his log cabin residence in the Fourteenth ward in Salt Lake. He told of his experience last October at the annual conference of the Deseret Sunday School Union in Salt Lake. In the spring of 1865 he was sent as a missionary to Europe, serving in the Swiss German mission. After his return president Brigham Young called him to preside as bishop over the Gunnison ward but again in 1876 he was called to serve as mission president in Switzerland, a position which he held until he was succeeded by Dr. Karl G. Maeser. In 1878 he was called to serve as bishop of the Richfield Second ward, a position which he held for more than 16 years. He was released to become the second counselor to president W. H. Seegmiller in the Sevier stake presidency. He was made a patriarch in 1898. Mr. Horne was also active in civic affairs. He served as a member of the territorial legislature in 1880; as mayor of Richfield, superintendent of schools and as a city councilman and county commissioner at various times. He resided in Salt Lake for some years before coming to Richfield. As a contractor he supervised the building of the Sevier county court house. He also was believed to have been the first undertaker in Sevier county and for 35 years worked as carpenter and wheelwright.

He married Ann Weiler, daughter of Jacob Weiler of Salt Lake City in 1868 and in 1879 following her death he was married to Maria Baum. She died and he married Martha M. Morrison, February 14, 1880 in the old Salt Lake Endowment house.

Surviving are the widow, five daughters, Mrs. Margaret H. Kienke and Mrs. Florence Tate both of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Edna Workman, Delta; Mrs. Leona Crouch and Mrs. Clara Parks both of Richfield. Five sons, Joseph Horne, Salt Lake City; W. R. Horne, Washington D. C., and Aaron Horne, Ogden; Owen Horne, Kaysville; Karl N. Horne, Abilene, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie James and Mrs. Mattie Tingey, Mrs. Clara James and Mrs. Mattle Tingey, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Cornelia Clayton, Blanding; a brother Wm. J. Horne, Salt Lake City. 67 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.

Biography

I took this from Find A Grave:

Mrs. Maria Morrison of this city died yesterday forenoon at the age of 58 years. She had been an invalid for nearly two years and for weeks had been confined to her bed in a almost helpless condition as the result of a stroke of paralysis. She was a widow of the late William Morrison, whom she married at Mt. Pleasant in 1863.

Mrs. Morrison was a native of Denmark and came to this country with her widowed mother in 1859. They settled first at Ephraim, then moved to Mt. Pleasant, and, after her marriage in 1863, the deceased came with her husband to Sevier County. They were among the first settlers of Richfield, but had to retire to Sanpete County on account of the Indian troubles in early times. After peace had been established they resettled here and lived until their deaths. Seven children were born to the couple, all of whom are living. Fred Hansen of this city is now the only living member of the deceased's brothers.
