In spite of what FTDNA told you, I cannot determine from the information you have provided how we could be related. My family is all from the East Coast. Paternal family is from Connecticut and New York primarily. Maternal is from Georgia and South Carolina. I do not see any surnames in your tree that are common to mine. Your tree looks like it is off to a good start. As a member of the LDS Church, you can have a free membership to Ancestry.com; otherwise it is quite expensive. Anyone can go to the Family History Libraries/Centers and get help with research - also there are a lot of records on FamilySearch. I do not think I can help you at this point, but feel free to stay in touch. For cousins at the level you mentioned, we would need to compare surnames and locations for more generations.
